Braces-Friendly Recipes
Fall is upon us, and as the trees shed their leaves and the weather starts to cool, we know people everywhere are looking forward to some time spent enjoying some delicious seasonal treats. If you're starting autumn with braces, though, you'll need to exercise caution: plenty of seasonal autumn foods pose a danger of breaking or damaging
brackets and braces. At Eastern Virginia Orthodontics, our mission is to make every part of the
orthodontic treatment process easier for patients throughout Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and the greater Chesapeake area, so here are a couple fall recipes you can safely enjoy with braces this year!
Apple Pancakes
Pancakes are a favorite breakfast meal during the colder months, so try these apple pancakes for added fall flair!
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1 cup tart apple, shredded
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon, ground
- 1/4 tsp salt
Directions
First, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and sugar in a mixing bowl. In a separate large bowl, combine the remaining ingredients, then stir in the flour mixture from the other bowl until everything is combined. Scoop about 1/4 cup of the mixture on a griddle at medium heat to make a pancake, then heat until browned on both sides. Repeat for as many as you like and serve them piping hot with syrup!
Homemade Applesauce
Applesauce is a favorite for just about any kid, but few parents realize just how easy – and delicious – it is to make at home. Give it a try for a braces-friendly fall treat that's sure to be a winner!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon, ground
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 4 apples, cored and chopped
Directions
This one is easy. Throw everything into a pot and simmer over medium heat until everything is soft, usually about 20 minutes. Once it's all cooked through, take it off heat and thoroughly mash the ingredients. The result is a delicious applesauce that's hot or cold, with or without a pairing!
