Find Your Smile With Metal Braces

Metal braces from Eastern Virginia Orthodontics are a tried and true solution for all your orthodontic needs. There’s a reason they’re still our most popular treatment.

What Are Modern Metal Braces?

At Eastern Virginia Orthodontics, Dr. Peluso, Dr. Savage, and the whole team take pride in offering cutting-edge braces solutions to our amazing Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach patients.

Traditional metal braces continue to be a reliable, durable, and economical choice, ranking as the go-to treatment for many of our patients year after year.

Comfortable

Gone are the days when metal braces were bulky and noticeable. With advances in orthodontic technology, you'll enjoy braces that are not only smaller but also less visible and more comfortable than ever.

Affordable

When it comes to affordability, metal braces stand out. They offer a cost-effective approach to orthodontic care, as they don't require some of the expensive technology and specialized equipment associated with newer treatment options.

Efficient

Metal braces can often work more quickly to close gaps and align teeth compared to other treatments. This efficiency could mean a shorter treatment period for you at Eastern Virginia Orthodontics.

How Metal Braces Work

Like any good team worth its weight in premium stainless steel, our metal braces system requires several components all doing their part to help you get the healthy, beautiful smile you deserve.

Let’s take a look at what metal braces are made of and how each piece does its part to straighten your smile.

Brackets

Metal braces use brackets of high-grade stainless steel to anchor the rest of the components that help your braces transform your smile.

Archwires

Your teeth will respond to the pressure exerted by the archwire. That’s how your smile comes together! The archwire links the brackets together and exerts a subtle force on your teeth, steering them into place.

Glue

Dr. Peluso and Dr. Savage use a special orthodontic adhesive to attach the brackets directly to your teeth.

Elastics

Dr. Peluso or Dr. Savage will attach the archwire to your brackets with these tiny rubber rings or bands. Elastics are less rigid than spacers and you can get them in dozens of colors.

Spacers

Dr. Peluso or Dr. Savage will use these tiny elastic “donuts” or rings to create space between your teeth when needed, typically before we place your bands.

The Metal Braces Process

At Eastern Virginia Orthodontics

Metal braces apply consistent and gentle pressure to your teeth, guiding them into proper alignment.

Here's how Dr. Peluso, Dr. Savage, and our expert team use metal braces to transform your smile:

Consultation & Planning

When you get to our Norfolk, Chesapeake, or Virginia Beach office, you'll meet our friendly team. They'll take some pictures and X-rays of your smile to get a detailed picture of what's happening.

Next, Dr. Peluso and Dr. Savage will examine your smile and discuss your goals. They'll create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique dental needs.

Braces Placement

Once your treatment plan is in place, Dr. Peluso and Dr. Savage will attach the brackets to your teeth with special glue. This process is painless and usually takes about an hour.

Archwire Installation

After they’ve placed your brackets, Dr. Peluso and Dr. Savage will thread the archwire through each one. This wire acts as a gentle force that guides your teeth into their correct positions over time.

Regular Adjustments

Throughout your treatment, you'll visit our clinic for periodic adjustments. During these appointments, Dr. Peluso and Dr. Savage will tighten or replace the archwire to keep your teeth moving in the right direction.

Final Stages & Retention

Once we’ve aligned your teeth, Dr. Peluso or Dr. Savage will remove your braces and provide you with a retainer designed specifically for you.

Your retainer will prevent your teeth from shifting out of their new positions. This is an important part of maintaining your new smile, so don’t skip it!
