How To Choose the Right Type of Braces

When patients come to Eastern Virginia Orthodontics, they often ask us which type of braces are right for them. Our team is committed to helping the people of Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and the surrounding area get the best quality orthodontic care possible. Part of that is helping them decide between traditional metal and ceramic braces.

Metal or Clear Braces?

The two main types of fixed-appliance braces are metal and ceramic braces. Both of which permanently stay in your mouth during treatment. If you’re looking for something a bit more discreet, we also offer Invisalign treatment to our Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach patients. Otherwise, follow along as we explain the main differences between metal and ceramic braces!

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common option. They have been in use for over 100 years and have advanced a great way during that time. These braces are smaller and more discreet than ever. Plus, you have the option to show off your personal style by changing out the color of your rubber bands. This is also a great option if you’re looking for more affordable and durable treatment.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are very similar to metal braces, however, they use clear, ceramic appliances rather than metal for a treatment that is virtually discreet. In many cases, they are almost completely unnoticeable in the patient’s mouth without looking closely.
